VMI excellence in vocal and artistic development

VMI Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about pathways, placement, online delivery, faculty, assessment, parents, progress and what happens after enrolment.

Is VMI only for singers who want professional careers?

No. Young Artist, Emerging Artist, Pre-Professional and Professional pathways support different stages of serious artistic development, while Adult VMI is explicitly designed for adults whose goals may be personal, choral, community-based or deeply artistic without being professional.

Is VMI completely online?

The core program is delivered live online, allowing singers to access BGE Faculty and a global artistic community from home. Specific future or special in-person opportunities may be offered separately where appropriate.

Does CORE require an audition?

No. CORE is a direct-enrolment developmental pathway. Assessment within CORE is used to support growth, not to decide whether someone deserves to participate.

Does ELITE require an admissions audition?

ELITE is direct enrolment. After enrolment, singers complete a placement questionnaire and provide 1–3 recent performance samples so the Academy can understand current stage and determine appropriate faculty, cohort and initial priorities. These are placement materials, not a pass/fail admissions audition.

Why is Director’s Studio selective?

Cassandra’s private capacity is limited and Director’s Studio involves a much more personally directed architecture. Consideration helps determine whether the singer’s goals, commitment, current stage and needs justify that level of individualized oversight and whether Cassandra believes she can create meaningful additional value.

Will VMI replace my child’s current voice teacher?

Not necessarily, and partnership with existing teachers is an important part of the Academy philosophy. VMI can add MasterClasses, curriculum, specialist expertise, assessments and broader development while respecting a trusted existing teaching relationship.

How are faculty selected?

Placement considers the singer’s age and stage, instrument, experience, repertoire, goals, learning needs and developmental priorities. Specialist expertise is added when it serves a defined need rather than simply to increase the number of people involved.

What support do parents receive?

For younger singers, families receive curated progress updates, clear practice direction, appropriate developmental reporting and guidance around upcoming decisions and opportunities. Parent-focused support and selected learning experiences help families understand what the singer is developing and how to reinforce the journey with confidence while BGE leads the specialist teaching and developmental direction.

Which pathways include Family & Community Experiences™?

Family & Community Experiences™—including selected Grandparents & Generations™, Friends & Families Studio Experiences™, Family MasterClass Days™, Parent & Student Salons™, Sibling Discovery™ and Family Milestones™—are curated as enhanced benefits for ELITE™ and DIRECTOR’S STUDIO™ students. They are not included in CORE™.

What happens in a Performance MasterClass?

Singers perform and receive live instruction while peers observe the diagnostic process, hear changes in real time, ask questions and learn from repertoire and challenges beyond their own. One singer performs; the entire room learns.

What if my singer has an examination, audition or competition coming up?

Milestones can be integrated into development when they are appropriate. VMI considers repertoire, preparation, technical and artistic readiness, psychology and the developmental value of the opportunity rather than treating every deadline as equally important.

How is progress measured?

Assessment establishes a starting point. Teaching and independent work create change. Progressive Development Reporting™ makes that movement more visible by identifying what has improved, what is becoming reliable, what remains unresolved and what deserves attention next.

What if I am already a professional singer?

Professional VMI™ is designed differently. Working artists can access Professional Studio™, Role & Audition Intensives™ and Specialist Consultations™ around the actual work in motion rather than entering a generic student curriculum.

What if I am an adult returning to singing after many years?

Adult VMI begins with the voice and life you have now. There is no requirement to prove what you might have achieved earlier. CORE, ELITE and Adult Director’s Studio offer different levels of individualization.

How do I know which pathway is right?

The pathway pages explain the differences. In general, CORE emphasizes the broader developmental environment, ELITE adds regular individualized private development and placement, and Director’s Studio adds selective Cassandra-led artistic architecture. Professional VMI is structured around working-professional needs.
