The BGIPA journey is designed to make each stage easier to understand as it becomes relevant—so students and families can see what is developing, what comes next and how each decision supports increasing artistic independence.
1. Begin with the student.
What do they love? What are they trying to do? Where are they frustrated? What does the current teacher or family already see? The first conversation should begin with the person, not the product.
2. Find the right discipline and level.
Voice/BGAVA/VMI™, Music/MMI™, Acting/AMI™, Dance/DMI™ and Speech Arts™ each offer different developmental pathways. CORE, ELITE and Director’s Studio reflect increasing individualization and complexity rather than labels of worth.
3. Assess when clarity would help.
An assessment can create a more precise starting picture when the student’s needs are unclear or the next decision is consequential.
4. Build a plan that can evolve.
Training, private work, MasterClasses, specialist support, reporting and opportunities should respond to development rather than remain fixed simply because a family first entered through one door.
5. Keep the family informed.
For younger students, parents and guardians should understand the purpose of the work, the protections around it and what progress means. Communication becomes more student-led as maturity and independence grow.
6. Use opportunity responsibly.
Auditions, examinations, performances and professional encounters become most valuable when they match the student’s readiness, preparation and current developmental priorities.
7. Build toward independence.
The long-term transformation is an increasingly capable artist or communicator who can prepare, evaluate, make decisions, seek appropriate expertise and carry greater responsibility for their own work.
