Director’s Studio is the Academy’s most personally directed pathway: selective, bespoke artistic development for singers whose ability, commitment and ambition call for an unusually close level of guidance.

Cassandra brings to those decisions the pattern recognition of a master voice teacher who has developed hundreds of students toward exceptional examination results, scholarships and awards, elite educational placements, major performance opportunities and professional careers. She has also assessed thousands of young musicians internationally as an examiner and adjudicator—including singers, instrumentalists, bands, orchestras, choirs and ensembles—and has carried responsibility for scholarships, awards and advancement to national music festivals. Director’s Studio carries Cassandra’s personal artistic oversight. Her role reaches beyond teaching a lesson: she helps shape the larger development of the artist—what deserves attention, how repertoire and opportunities fit together, where a specialist perspective could add value and how the singer can prepare for increasingly consequential artistic moments.
Cassandra brings decades of experience as an award-winning Canadian soprano, elite master voice teacher, educator, and an International Examiner and Adjudicator since 2006. That perspective allows her to hear the singer as a teacher while also understanding how preparation, musicianship, communication, presentation and artistic choices are perceived when the singer eventually enters an examination, audition or competitive room.
Her work also reaches beyond the stage. Director’s Studio develops judgement, communication, self-command, leadership and the way an artist learns to show up when nobody is watching—because professional readiness is built in the practice room long before it is visible under stage lights.
The artist remains at the centre. Cassandra’s role is to see more, connect more and help the singer grow with intention.

Three Personally Directed Development Sessions Each Month
Your artist receives a regular rhythm of three individualized development sessions each month, personally architected around what will create the greatest value at that stage. One session may be private vocal study with Cassandra; another may bring in a stage director, diction or language specialist, collaborative artist, acting coach or another carefully curated expert. Cassandra remains responsible for the larger trajectory, so every specialist encounter serves the same artistic direction. The question is always: what does this artist need next?
Invitation-Only Accelerated Voice Development With Cassandra
Director’s Studio artists may also be offered the opportunity to add additional private voice-development sessions directly with Cassandra Bourne. This privilege is reserved for Director’s Studio artists and is considered after the assessment, audition and interview as the year’s custom architecture is designed. For the right singer, multiple direct touch points can build stamina, deepen coordination, accelerate technical and artistic growth and provide intensive preparation around important milestones. The frequency is recommended according to the artist and incorporated into the individualized offer.

Extraordinary artists are rarely developed by one person. As needs become more specialized, Director’s Studio can coordinate a carefully chosen circle of senior faculty and professional expertise around the singer.
A language coach may deepen a particular role. A pianist or collaborative artist may become important before an audition. A specialist may illuminate style, repertoire or performance practice. A professional conversation may help the singer understand a world they are preparing to enter.
The purpose is coherence. Each person is selected because their expertise can advance something meaningful at that moment, while Cassandra continues to direct the larger architecture. This also gives the artist exceptional continuity: the dedicated development rhythm can remain protected when Cassandra is travelling, adjudicating, examining or fulfilling other professional engagements, because an appropriate member of the curated faculty can advance the work planned for that stage.

An initial parent-and-student interview is mandatory for young artists because understanding the family, the artist and the expectations surrounding the journey helps us build trust from the beginning. Additional student-only conversations can be scheduled when the artist needs a confidential space to think, reflect and develop increasing ownership of the work.

Director’s Studio grows from a philosophy Cassandra has practised for years: listen carefully to the artist in front of you, develop the whole musician, recognize when the next specialist or opportunity can expand the journey, and prepare deeply enough that the artist is ready when the door opens.
Mary — From Young Singer to Scholar, Performer & Teacher
Mary came to Cassandra as a young girl. During their years of study, she earned First Class Honours in her Royal Conservatory examinations and repeatedly placed among the top three singers at regional music festivals, ultimately advancing to the Provincial Music Festival and placing in the top three there as well.
Cassandra recognized that Mary was ready for a broader artistic environment and encouraged her to audition for the Canadian Children’s Opera Company, where she was accepted. Soon afterward, Cassandra prepared her to audition for the leading role of Laura Secord in Mary’s Cow, an opera by Errol Gay and Michael Albano. Mary secured the role and made her leading-lady opera debut.
As university approached, Cassandra continued shaping Mary’s preparation. Mary was accepted into every program for which she auditioned and received a personal call from the dean of one of Canada’s leading universities inviting her to attend. She ultimately chose the University of Toronto, receiving a full scholarship for her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees.
Today Mary is a wife, mother and teacher, sharing her gifts and abilities with the next generation of students.
The deeper story is the architecture: excellent foundational training, objective milestones, recognition of when a new artistic environment was needed, carefully chosen opportunities, role preparation and university strategy—each stage building upon the one before it.
Rebecca — From Young Artist to International Opera Agent
Rebecca’s journey with Cassandra began in her junior-school years and continued through high-school graduation. Her Royal Conservatory examinations and music-festival participation developed in parallel, giving her both structured musical milestones and regular opportunities to grow through performance.
When Rebecca set her sights on the Arts York program at Unionville High School, Cassandra prepared her for the audition and Rebecca was accepted. Her development was never confined to one discipline. Rebecca had a particular passion for tap dance, and when Cassandra accepted the appointment of Director of Voice for the Unionville Theatre production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s CATS, she invited Rebecca to audition. Rebecca secured a role and found herself doing exactly what a multidimensional young artist should have opportunities to do: singing musical theatre, performing as part of a major production and tap dancing her way through the experience.
Cassandra also encouraged Rebecca to expand beyond her regular training through several summer music intensives. Rebecca travelled to Halifax for the Halifax Summer Opera Festival, broadening her repertoire, artistic experience and understanding of the larger operatic world.
As university approached, the work became increasingly strategic. Rebecca completed RCM Grade 10 Voice and Grade 3 Harmony with honours and pursued highly competitive university and conservatory opportunities in Canada and the United States. Her audition journey included Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music, Curtis, Boston and the University of Toronto, and she was offered scholarship support in Boston. She ultimately chose the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, where she completed both her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees.
But Rebecca’s story did not end with becoming a highly trained singer. Her knowledge of voices, repertoire, performance and the profession became the foundation for another calling. She went on to study artist management, moved to New York City and became an agent. Today, her career has taken her to Budapest, where she works in European classical voice and opera representation, helping to shape the careers of singers from around the world.
For a parent, that is the larger possibility: serious artistic education does not have to lead to only one definition of success. The young singer learning technique, musicianship, courage, discipline and professional awareness may ultimately become a performer—or may discover that those same years of development have prepared them to lead, represent and shape the artistic world itself.

Director’s Studio is selective because personal direction works best when the level of program matches the singer’s readiness and needs. The admission process includes review of the submitted recordings and, for applicants who are advanced, a private 30-minute Director’s Studio Interview™ with Cassandra.
Recording Review
Cassandra listens closely to the submitted performances and considers the voice, musicianship, repertoire, experience, learning patterns, current strengths and developmental priorities.
Private Director’s Studio Interview™
Applicants who are advanced receive a private scheduling link for a 30-minute interview with Cassandra. For young artists, parent and student attend together. Older students who independently manage their training may attend on their own. This is not another audition; no additional repertoire is required unless Cassandra specifically requests it.
Placement & Artistic Recommendation
The purpose is to identify the environment that can serve the singer best. Placement may be CORE, ELITE or Director’s Studio. Director’s Studio artists are also automatically considered for Cassandra Bourne’s invitation-only Private Voice Studio.
Selection is an act of care: the right pathway should meet the artist at the level where they can thrive.

Private Director’s Studio Interview™ with Cassandra Bourne
Following review of the submitted recordings, selected applicants receive a private link to schedule a 30-minute interview. Cassandra meets with the artist—and, for young artists, the parent—to discuss what she observed, understand ambition, goals, current training and family expectations, and consider the larger vision for the journey.
Placement & Acceptance
We determine whether Director’s Studio is the right level of care and direction. When it is, the artist is invited to move forward.
Individualized Director’s Studio Offer
The family receives a private proposal defining the artistic development architecture, training intensity, specialist participation, scope and investment designed for that artist.
Agreement & Private Payment Arrangements
After the offer is accepted, the formal agreement and payment arrangements are completed privately. The family selects the payment option provided within the individual offer and receives the corresponding private payment instructions.
The relationship comes first. The financial transaction follows acceptance, clarity and agreement.

Requesting Director’s Studio consideration gives us the opportunity to understand the artist and gives your family the opportunity to understand how we work. The assessment and interview may lead to Director’s Studio. We may recommend ELITE or CORE as the stronger developmental fit. We may also recognize that an artist’s current environment is already serving them beautifully and identify a more focused way for the Academy to add value.
Selection works in both directions. Your family should feel confident in the relationship, the artistic philosophy and the proposed architecture before moving forward.

Director’s Studio begins at $20,000 USD per month.
Following recording review and the Private Director’s Studio Interview™, accepted artists receive an individualized artistic development proposal reflecting their goals, training architecture, level of intensity and specialist requirements.
The relationship is established personally before financial arrangements are finalized. Once an artist is accepted and the proposed pathway has been agreed, the family receives the formal agreement and private payment instructions appropriate to the offer.
The investment reflects the depth of attention, expertise and artistic direction surrounding the artist.
Questions Families & Artists Usually Ask
Is Director’s Studio open enrolment?
Director’s Studio is a selective pathway. Admission begins with a request for consideration and submitted recordings. Applicants who are advanced receive a private invitation to a 30-minute Director’s Studio Interview™ with Cassandra so we can understand the singer deeply and recommend the level of development that fits best.
Does Director’s Studio include individualized private development?
Yes. The working rhythm includes three personally directed development sessions each month. Cassandra architects those sessions around what the artist needs most at that stage. A session may focus on private vocal development with Cassandra, stage direction, diction or language, acting, collaborative work, performance preparation or another carefully selected specialty. The purpose is to give the artist the right expertise at the right moment while the larger trajectory remains personally directed by Cassandra.
Can a Director’s Studio artist study voice with Cassandra more frequently?
Potentially, yes. Director’s Studio artists have exclusive access to consideration for additional private voice-development sessions directly with Cassandra. After the assessment, audition and interview, Cassandra determines whether a higher-frequency rhythm would meaningfully support the singer’s stamina, technical development, artistic growth or preparation for a particular milestone. When appropriate, that accelerated private-study architecture is included in the artist’s individualized offer.
Will Cassandra Bourne personally direct my artist’s development?
Yes. Cassandra directs the artistic architecture, trajectory and important developmental decisions. She also works directly with Director’s Studio artists as appropriate to the individual plan. Because the program is intentionally multidisciplinary, she may curate another senior specialist for a particular session when that expertise will advance the artist more effectively. The artist therefore receives Cassandra’s direction together with access to the right professional expertise for the work at hand.
Can I keep my existing teacher or university program?
Yes. Director’s Studio can complement excellent existing training. We look at the whole artistic team and determine how Academy direction, specialist support and opportunity strategy can add value around relationships already serving the singer well.
Is Director’s Studio only for singers pursuing a professional career?
The pathway serves serious artists whose commitment and developmental needs justify this level of personal direction. For some, that leads toward a professional performing career; for others, the value includes mastery, leadership, communication, confidence and the experience of discovering how far disciplined artistic development can go.
Is the program online?
The Academy’s core delivery is live online, allowing artists to access exceptional direction and a wider artistic network from wherever they live. Curated professional encounters, regional relationships and other opportunities may add additional formats where appropriate.
