Artistic training can become one of the places a young person learns how to prepare, receive correction, make decisions, carry responsibility and contribute to something larger than themselves.

Leadership begins before the title.

A developing artist practises self-leadership every time they prepare when nobody is watching, listen to a colleague, recover from disappointment, respond to feedback or choose the standard they will bring into a room.

What the experience explores

Identity, standards, communication, responsibility, resilience, collaboration, judgement, contribution and the relationship between excellence and how we treat other people.

Not a leadership badge

The purpose is not to label every talented young person a leader. It is to help participants notice the capacities that allow trust and responsibility to grow over time.

Exceptional performance matters. So does the person who is learning to carry it.
